CV or Resume Creation

Opinions vary as to the best format for a CV. However the following example is adequate in many circumstances

INCLUDE YOUR FULL NAME AT THE TOP

PERSONAL DETAILS

[Include your Name, Nationality, Date of Birth, Address, Marital Status, Phone Number(s) and E-mail address. Also state whether you are a driver and how mobile you are prepared to be]

QUALIFICATIONS
[Include Degrees, 'A' levels and GCSE's (or relevant diplomas for candidates from other countries).   You should also list commercial training courses you have completed. Do not include individual course module unless you are only recently qualified]

TECHNICAL SUMMARY

[Specify the Hardware, Software, Operating Systems and Packages you have experience of.  Make sure you refer to most of these skills later on in the employment history section, otherwise it will look like a collection of buzz words without any supporting evidence.]

ACHIEVEMENTS

[A short summary of the major achievements of your career to date]

POSITION SOUGHT

[A short description of the IT position you are looking for. Remember to target this to the job you are applying for. Specify where you want to work, your current rate/package, and the rate/package you are seeking]

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
[List the most recent job first and remember not to leave any gaps. Spell out what you did and be specific about what skills/technologies you used, the dates you started and finished and if possible your reasons for leaving. Don't criticise previous employers, even if they are deserving!]

INTERESTS
[Describe your interests. It is a good idea to provide examples that demonstrate attributes the employer may find attractive]

REFERENCES
[Make it clear if references are available on request.  Many applicants find it is better to state that references are "Available on request", rather than to disclose their referees directly on the CV and run the risk that they could receive sales calls from the agency that receives your CV]
